Overview

Dispatch was busy at Thornton Engineering in Late July/Early August with more than 580T of fabricated truss and columns, loading ramps, link spans, and miscellaneous items leaving Thornton Engineering en route to Geelong Port. This upgrade is to facilitate the Spirit of Tasmania coming to Geelong.

Thornton Engineering’s scope for the project included but was not limited to, Workshop detailing, fabrication of steel truss in 7 sections, Grid 4 columns and three link spans, welding to AS1554.1SP, Non-destructive testing of welds, surface protection (blast to class 3.0 with a 2-coat and 3-cost paint systems), trial assembly of the truss sections with a dimensional survey, structural fasteners and transportation of the truss sections to site for the client Fitzgerald Constructions.

Projects of this scale always come with challenges and through teamwork and planning, we were able to successfully deliver all the requirements to assist in bringing the Spirit of Tasmania to Geelong.
