Overview
We recently completed works for a valued client on their mine expansion project in NSW. The project contained 240.6T of what was a large majority of plate fabrication. There were 26 chute sections made in 35 total parts.
Our scope included; supply, fabrication, painting, protective coating and inspection and testing of plate work items including hoppers, chutes, sumps, bins, launders, conveyor skirting, scrapers, gates, and other miscellaneous fabricated items.
Trial fitting the surge bin sections was no problem with our two 32T+32T (64T each) crane’s ability to fit 12m under hook. This allowed us to comfortably fit the middle section to the bottom section and then separately the top section to the middle section.
Our scope also included the installation of wear plate liners into every chute prior to transport. The project consisted of 5,146 liners and was a great challenge for some of our puzzle-solving experts!
This expansion project is set to boost their nameplate capacity from 23mtpa to 33mtpa, a ~50% improvement. Thornton Engineering thoroughly enjoys assisting clients to achieve their goals on a wide variety of projects.
